U.K. April consumer prices eased to 8.7% Y/y from the prior 10.7%, the release came above consensus expectations
As seen in our Inflation Monitor, the U.K. is now second in the gap between actual inflation and central bank target at 6.7 percentage points
Inflation now stands 1.9 percentage points above the median survey for 2023, this is now lower from the prior 3.3 percentage points
The largest inflation target overshoot is seen in Sweden, consumer prices rise at 10.5% Y/y, this is 8.5 percentage points above the Riksbank's policy mandate
When it comes to inflation impulse, the April CPI placed the U.K. at -0.4 vs the prior 0.0. A negative reading suggests inflation is no longer accelerating faster over the last six months
