The correlation coefficient between a measure of the dollar and the volatility benchmark dipped to the most negative on record.
A figure below -0.5 is statistically significant, such levels on daily changes have not been recorded since 2008.
Without further nerdy terms, all of this confirms that the dollar has lost ground in part of the smile, where its premium is bid on volatility spikes. In other word, it is now trading more like an EMFX.
