IHS Markit on U.S.: Adjusted for seasonal factors, the IHS Markit Flash U.S. Composite PMI Output Index posted 62.2 in April, up from 59.7 in March, to reach the highest since data collection began in October 2009. The seasonally adjusted IHS Markit Flash U.S. Services PMI™ Business Activity Index registered 63.1 in April, up from 60.4 in March to signal the fastest expansion in service sector activity since data collection for the series began in October 2009.

IHS Markit on UK: Manufacturing sector business conditions strengthened again in April, led by the steepest rise in new orders since November 2013. Production volumes increased to the greatest extent since last August, with particularly strong momentum seen among Food & Drink manufacturers due to the reopening of hospitality businesses. UK service providers indicated a steep and accelerated rise in business activity during April. At 60.1, up from 56.3 in March. By sub-category, by far the strongest momentum was seen among consumer services, driven by the reopening of some customer-facing parts of the economy in England and Wales.

IHS Markit on Germany: The survey’s manufacturing output index remained in strong growth territory, at 67.7, but signalled a slight loss of momentum since March (68.9) amid several reports from surveyed firms of supply issues holding back production. April’s ‘flash’ PMI® data from IHS Markit showed a slowdown in growth across Germany’s private sector, with services activity stalling and the upturn in manufacturing production partly held back by supply shortages.
