  • The 1-year rolling standard deviation for U.S. headline CPI surprises stands at 0.18 percentage points, this is unchanged from prior

  • The most recent upside surprise was recorded in January, February and December metrics came in line with the consensus

  • Over the course of last year, U.S. headline surprises have averaged 0.6pp, low -0.2pp, high +0.29pp

  • Incorporating the Feb. Core PCE Deflator data, the Cable FX Macro U.S. Inflation Surprise Index last reading printed at 25.0 vs a prior -6.3. PCE is the sole responsible for the rebound as of February, given the nature of our indicator which gives a higher weight to the rolling quarter
