*U.S. APRIL CONSUMER PRICES INCREASE 0.3% M/M; EST. 0.2%

*U.S. APRIL CORE CONSUMER PRICES RISE 6.2% Y/Y%; EST. 6.0%


  • The U.S. April consumer prices report showed the headline expanding by 8.3% Y/Y, this was 2/10s of a percent higher than the median estimate but slower than the previous 8.5%. The core figure printed at 6.2% Y/Y easing from the previous 6.5% and topping the consensus forecast

  • On a monthly basis, the figure came at the lowest since August. Gasoline declined by a 6.1%, followed by the broad energy basket fall of 2.7%. Transportation led the rise at 3.1%, fuel oil came at 2.7%, used cars eased at 0.40%
